An Approach for Obtaining Stable, Reproducible, and Accurate Fibrogram Measurements from High Volume Instruments

Fiber length is a crucial property throughout many textile processing steps. The high volume instrument (HVI) the most commonly used tool to assess properties of cotton fibers. HVI currently reports two parameters, upper-half mean (UHML) and uniformity index (UI). UI ratio (ML) UHML expressed as percentage. ML are extracted from fibrogram. These parameters in current U.S. classification global marketing systems. values highly correlated characterize only longer fibers sample. fibrogram holds more descriptive information than measurements provided by HVI. However, limited available about stability repeatability measurement. This study aims investigate fibrogram, reproducibility across multiple instruments, determine if corrective actions required. Three different raw sample sets were tested for this three-stage experiment. obtained results demonstrate that given HVI, entire stable over both short term long term; however, differences among HVIs observed. proposed correction procedure effectively reduces four lines.
